Class
What Is a Class in PIM?
A class is a logical grouping of shared attributes across a set of products within a PIM (Product Information Management) system. It structures and organizes product data consistently, based on their common characteristics.
In a PIM, classes are used to standardize the management of product information. For example, a “Shoes” class might include attributes such as size, material, color, or sole type, while a “Home Appliances” class would group attributes such as power, energy consumption, or dimensions. This organization makes it easier to enrich, maintain, and distribute data across the various sales channels.
The main benefit of classes lies in their ability to simplify product data management and ensure consistency. By grouping similar products into the same class, marketing and e-commerce teams gain efficiency: they avoid redundancy, reduce errors, and speed up time to market. Classes are also essential for automating workflows, particularly when integrating with marketplaces, ERP systems, or DAM solutions.
