What Is an EAN/UPC Code?

An EAN (European Article Number) or UPC (Universal Product Code) is a unique identifier assigned to a product, allowing it to be recognized and tracked throughout the supply and sales chain. These codes, represented as bars or numbers, are used worldwide to simplify inventory management, in-store and online sales, and data exchange between partners.

In e-commerce and marketing, EAN/UPC codes are essential for listing products on marketplaces (such as Amazon or Cdiscount), synchronizing product information across systems (ERP, PIM, websites), and ensuring accurate item identification.
