What is a GTIN code?

The GTIN code (Global Trade Item Number) is a standardized identifier used to uniquely recognize a product anywhere in the world. It allows companies, distributors and marketplaces to manage the exchange of goods accurately and automatically.

Assigned by the GS1 organization, the GTIN comes in several formats (GTIN-8, GTIN-12, GTIN-13 or GTIN-14) depending on the type of product. It’s often represented as a barcode or QR code, supporting traceability, inventory management and commercial transactions. For example, GTIN-13, the most common format, corresponds to the 13 digits found under the barcodes of consumer goods.
