Traceability
What Is Product Traceability?
Product traceability refers to the ability to track and reconstruct an item's journey, from design to distribution, including manufacturing and logistics. It allows companies and consumers to access precise information about the origin of raw materials, production conditions, or the parties involved in the supply chain.
In e-commerce and marketing, traceability is a lever for trust and transparency. Brands use it to reassure customers about the quality, ethics, or environmental impact of their products. For example, a consumer can scan a QR code to access the complete history of a garment, from the cotton farm to the manufacturing workshop.
With the emergence of the Digital Product Passport (DPP), traceability is taking on a new dimension. This digital document, integrated into product sheets within a PIM (Product Information Management) system, centralizes data such as composition, carbon footprint, or recycling instructions. The DPP thus facilitates regulatory compliance (such as the European circular economy regulation) and strengthens brand credibility on marketplaces and e-commerce sites.
